Do More Online
With the world becoming ever more digital the UK Government is running a ‘Do More Online’ campaign as part of its Business is Great activity. Highlighting to businesses particularly SMEs the importance of an online presence from just having a basic website to social media and even the value of having an online shop.
A study by the Internet Advertising Bureau UK supports this stating that nearly 80% of consumers would be more inclined to buy more often in the future because of a brand’s presence on social media.
With digital skills charity GO ON UK finding that 31% of small businesses in the UK lack basic digital skills, making them less competitive than many of their peers it is not surprising the government has launched this campaign to help British businesses.
Being online is one thing but understanding how to engage with your audience is just as important as this will ensure that you deliver the best user experience which in turn should result in better sales conversion.
For me making sure that everything is about and for the customer is essential. Relevant information needs to be easy and logical to find and understand. It should be in a context but not dry it should be interesting and inspiring.
Imagery and how you convey your brand is key as this is your shop window. It is normally the first impression of your business in this digital world. It will be how people will remember your business.
Some key things to consider are:
- Contact details – makes these easy to find and use as ultimately this is what you want people to do!
- Navigation – make sure it makes sense and is easy and not too many clicks!
- Imagery – confident, impactful imagery. You want the experience to be a happy one as happy people buy whether products or services!
- Copy – use an easy to read font, keep the copy light. I love summary paragraphs with bullet points and tables for more technical information, pdfs or infographics!
Ultimately you want your visitors to have found the whole experience simple and enjoyable. So yes, ‘Do more online’ but make sure you do it right!
